About IT Department

The Department of Information Technology (IT), one of the three oldest departments of RCCIIT started functioning in 1999 with an AICTE approved intake of 60 students. This department inherited the time-tested expertise of the then RCC, Calcutta in imparting quality IT education and grew with time to fulfill the basic objective of formation of RCCIIT to augment the capacity offered by formal stream of education in IT and thus enhance the number of IT professionals produced in eastern India, particularly in West Bengal.

The B.Tech (IT) program (which is now accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi) of the department started under affiliation of Kalyani University in 1999 and then came under affiliation of West Bengal University of Technology in 2003-04. Department of IT is one of first three departments of RCCIIT having introduced M.Tech program (since 2012-13). The department boasts of consistently excellent track record of its B.Tech students as far as academic performance and placement in core industry is concerned. The Alumni base is quite rich now with many of them placed in important positions in MNCs in India and abroad and some joining academia after pursuing higher studies and research. The department has a mix of young and experienced teachers - some of them having rich research profile and long experience of teaching. The department acts as a well-knit unit with good understanding among the faculty members and technical and non-teaching staff. Regular FDPs and SDPs and student workshops beyond regular academic practices bring the opportunity for continuous skill up gradation of the staff and students and faculty members of the department.

The department is on its mission to achieve further excellence by way of NBA accreditation and academic autonomy.

To groom the students to:

M1..Be able to develop effective solution, in different settings and capacity, by analyzing various problems cross cutting multiple domains through emphasis on the basic concepts of engineering and customized application of Information Technology.
M2.Be devoted for lifelong learning for adapting to modern tools and to engage in research and innovation on complex problems to meet societal and environmental needs.
M3.Be able to apply leadership qualities and professional ethics to work in a team with effective communication and interpersonal skills for designing economically feasible applications.

B. Tech. (IT)

B. Tech. (IT) started with 60 seats in 1999 to produce quality engineers in the field of IT and allied technologies commensurate with the vision of the Institution. Intake increased from 60 to 90 in 2010 and 90 to 120 in 2017 to fulfill the requirement of quality engineers as perceived by the market trends (Lateral entry is maximum upto 20% of 1st year intake in UG 2nd year)

M. Tech. CSE(AI)

M. Tech. in CSE (AI) started with 18 seats in 2021. Department imparts quality research oriented education in Post Graduate studies with an active support from its well acquianted teaching team. PG students are always encouraged to get themselves involved in research and development. Introduction of this course has a aim to produce expert professionals in the field of Artificial Intelligence looking at the growing trend of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO-1. To learn core engineering principles for developing analytical and problem-solving skills for designing and using various applications of Information Technology.
PEO-2. To communicate and interact with external community and peer team members to understand and address different issues and challenges of environment, society and individual through applications of Information Technology and professional management skills.
PEO-3. To undertake research and development in frontiers of Information Technology through lifelong learning.
PEO-4. To become a professional with positive attitude, leadership skills, moral values and ethics.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

PSO-1. Ability to develop smart programming skills through comprehensive understanding of analytical and logical concepts and algorithms.
PSO-2. Ability to investigate social, environmental, ethical and economic feasibility of an IT solution to a complex/ composite problem in terms of long-term impact and sustainability of every intricate application.
PSO-3. Ability to keep pace with fast changing technology like Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, IOT, Pattern Recognition and adapt to new tools, systems & applications and manage challenging IT projects.

Department has a well furbished internal library which contains books and periodicals on wide range of Information Technology related subjects. Faculties can access the titles for reading references. Students can access the books and other articles through faculties. This library has provision for browsing online resources through multiple access nodes within the library itself. The library remains open during standard working hours on all working days.
